Seven years after Eye of the Beholder ends, Neil Craftsman's story begins. When Sarah Donner learns she's pregnant, she hopes this blessing will be the thing to make her husband finally love her. But to her horror, he announces that she will go live with her overbearing mother-in-law.
Weeks before she is due to give birth, they are traveling to her mother-in-law's when some thieves kill him. Ready to give birth, she has to rely on the aid of the one man others had warned her about Neil Craftsman. She knows of his tarnished past, and no respectable woman will go near him. But when she learns her husband left her with no home and no money, she has nowhere else to go but to the one man she's shunned.
As she gets to know Neil, she learns that there is more to him than meets the eye. But when his past comes back to haunt him, will her newfound love be enough to redeem him - or will he always be a shunned man?

Ruth Ann Nordin is brave. There aren't many Christian authors who are willing to write about marital sex with such candor and boldness -- unless it's nonfiction. And even then...hmm? With that in mind, I can see how her books would be difficult for some to read. But I also think her writing addresses a lot of the sexual issues pertaining to married women that maybe we shouldn't be so shy about. Whatever your feelings on the matter, Ruth Ann definitely gives the reader something to think about; and, apart from this topic -- which is a small portion of the book -- a wonderful story is told.I loved the realness of the characters. The fact that Neil had a past, and was a changed man, caused me to relate heavily. I also adored Sara's transformation from a woman who valued image to one who valued heart, and how she discovered her own worth in God's eyes as this change occurred. Beautiful!
My absolute favorite part of the book though, was a somewhat risque scene with a prostitute. No, not for that reason! I don't want to give too much away, other than to say that Neil suddenly sees this woman as someone's daughter, and it changes his perception of her from being an object, to being a person. This can apply to so many people in various walks of life, and I think the author did a superb job of balancing grit with message here.
So, my hat's off to Ruth Ann. I liked this book! It's definitely an adult read, and not for every adult. If you decide to give it shot, your eyes should be wide open that there is explicit sexual description (non-erotica though) within its pages; however, it does NOT placate, or promote any behavior that is contrary to Christian values. And the description given goes along with the theme of Sara's discovery of what's right and wrong in the eyes of man vs God's eyes.
Definitely a Grace-Inspired story.

His Redeeming Bride Nebraska Historical Romances Book 8 edition by Ruth Ann Nordin Romance eBooks Reviews
This author was my very first experience with historical romances. I was determined not to like it and get back to my zombie books, but she tricked me! When someone begged me to read Ms. Nordin's book, I was not happy. However, I now think I've read all of her books to date and am very unhappy she can't write as fast as I can read. Come on, Ruth! I'm dying here! (This review will be the same for all of the reviews I leave for this author. There's only so many ways you can tell people you love an author and their work.)
Another great story about the people of Omaha, Nebraska. But, if you've read the "preceding" books of the Nebraska series, don't expect to read as much about the Larson's, as only a couple of them make an appearance in this story and it's brief, to say the least. However, it was nice to have a peek of Eliza's (South Dakota series) previous life and how she came about to leave it, in this book.
The story was made more believable by the fact that Neil and Sarah started off on a bad note, but became friends, before coming together in bed (after marriage).
The message of "forgiving ones past transgressions" is clear and the comical ending was a very nice touch.
***If you don't want to read anything sexual, please go to the author's website where you can learn the rating of her books, before you read them. There is no point in giving poor reviews, because you don't want to see sexual content in a "Christian Romance".
In order to understand this book, its better to read Eye of the Beholder first. Basically this is Neil and Cassie's story a few years after Eye of the Beholder takes place. I loved that Neil got Cassie away by divorcing her, the entire story comes to light of how she came to him pregnant with another man's child. Neil takes the child, a daughter, and makes her his very own. Another woman comes to him, someone who is decidedly small minded, but that is how she was raised, and is forced to stay with him when her husband dies. The lady in question was pregnant, but ended up having the baby on Neil's farm and is staying there until other arrangements can be made. I loved Neil's quiet acceptance of his reputation in town. He was known as a skirt chaser up until 5 years before meeting our heroine. A friendship blossoms between the two until circumstances catch up to them and they must marry. I liked this story. I highly recommend it for a light read, it has some heavy Christian overtones, but they're more to provoke rather than inspire the plot.
This story follows Eye of the Beholder - the two stories do stand alone, but it is more interesting to read about Neil here when you know about his past.
Neil is a changed man, but most people still see him as the selfish man he used to be. The story gets off to a dramatic start when Sarah is forced to accept the hospitality of a man she believes to be a monster. As her troubles mount and she receives cold responses elsewhere, she comes to recognise that Neil is very different from his reputation in town. He is devoted to his daughter Emily and shows her and her baby nothing but kindness.
The romance between them is slow and based on friendship initially. Their growing bond is very warm and realistic.
They face several obstacles - from people interfering in her life and others in his and Emily's.
I enjoyed this book, but not quite as much as the previous Eye of the Beholder. I felt that the ending scene in town was slightly farcical and unrealistic, but all's well that ends well.
This book introduces us to Eliza, whose story is told in Loving Eliza - another very enjoyable book by Ruth Ann Nordin
Sarah Donner was pregnant and her husband of ten years was hateful man of many secrets She knew nothing about. After he gets killed she finds herself at the home of Neil Craftsman and his daughter Emily. Neil was once married to Cassie and she wanted a divorce so she could marry a rich man. She left Emily with Neil. Sarah has a nasty mother in law who wants her son Luke after she gives birth. This story gets really involved with these two nasty women and a preacher who does not preach forgiveness but a lot of things that are not in the bible. I enjoyed it very much to see how the evil loses and good and loving people win.
